Villa Thalia, Toffler, Perron… these places are really cool to start when going out for the first time in Rotterdam. But after some time, these locations the Rotterdam nightlife might become a bit standard. “Rotterdam just isn’t a city to go out, you should go to Amsterdam”, is something that you hear often. But this is completely wrong! Rotterdam has so much to offer, you just have to know where to go. There are 6 hotspots you really shouldn’t miss, so let me tell you where to find them. 

1.     Poing

Let’s begin in the bustling city center of Rotterdam. Right next to the central station, you will find an area with various clubs: Perron, Annabel, Biergarten and… Poing! Here you have it all, food, games and music! The arcade hall transforms to a club in the evening and hosts the best parties in the city. Poing is a great place to start the night off with a couple of drinks and beating your mates in a match. 

2.     Worm

If you ask any Rotterdammer where to have a drink, they will automatically tell you to go to Wittedewith street. They will however not tell you that there are a few very nice places to go out on this very same street. The first location you will be blown away by is Worm, located next to Wonderbar (and yes, it really lives up to its name). At Worm, you will find a wide range of fun events: karaoke, art festivals and dance events.

3.     NRC

Okay, okay. Many of you might already know this location. But in case you only have had a drink here, let me tell you about the amazing mini club they have inside! The huge disco ball is a real eyecatcher and I am pretty sure you will be amazed by the cozy feelings this place will give you. 

4.     Huiskantine

“Student life is expensive enough already”, well… that’s for sure! Huiskantine, a small place near the Oude Haven offers great (cheap!) drinks. The club was founded because the prices to go out for a drink are HIGH in the city. Huiskantine is the best event location to prepare for the night, with fun tunes and relaxed people you’ll be able to start the night right. 

5.     Weelde

Weelde… omg yes. This is a place I always get excited about. You can find Weelde just outside the city center, near Marconiplein. It is a club/cocktail bar/city beach/skatepark and it has the most amazing drinks and food. In the summertime they host many events and exhibitions and has an amazing ambiance. Just check it out yourself, you will not be disappointed.

6.     Keile...werf? Café? Bitter. 

Keile… what? Keilewerf is a “permanent festival” with the best drinks and music. It’s a small and intimate area where you can relax. Oh and by the way, don’t forget to try their pizza’s. It’s definitely a place you should have been at least once (a month ;)). 

*Bonus: did you know that the founders of the Keilecafe started a new club/restaurant? It’s a very nice place to go to dinner and as the evening progresses, the restaurant slowly transforms into a club. It’s not too far from Keilewerf so when you’re done just head over to there!
